BATTLE CREEK, Mich., April 22, 2013 – This month, Kellogg Company is joining forces with Walmart for its Fighting Hunger Together initiative, focused on reducing hunger across the nation. Along with nine other food and beverage companies, Kellogg and Walmart will bring food and funds to nonprofit organizations that work to fight hunger.

According to the latest data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, more than 50 million Americans live in food insecure households, and more than 16 million of those impacted are children . To support the Fighting Hunger Together initiative, Kellogg is providing a $100,000 gift to Feeding America, the nation's leading domestic hunger relief charity, which will provide 800,000 meals  to those who need it most. In addition, the company is donating approximately $4 million of Keebler® snack and Kellogg’s® cereal products that includes Cheez-It® crackers, Fiber Plus® bars, Special K® Cracker Chips, and Austin® crackers to food banks across the country that are part of the Feeding America network.

“The Fighting Hunger Together initiative is a truly unique program that ignites support for our nationwide network of food banks and their partner feeding agencies at a time when the need is great," said Bob Aiken, president and CEO of Feeding America. "The spring months can be an especially challenging time for our food banks, when food donations can be very low.”

“It’s a travesty that more than one in five children live in food insecure households. That’s why we’re working to bring awareness and resources to this important issue through the Fighting Hunger Together initiative with Walmart,” said Kris Charles, Kellogg Company vice president of global communications and philanthropy. “Our partnership also aligns well with our Breakfasts for Better Days™ initiative providing 1 billion servings of cereal and snacks in support of global hunger relief by the end of 2016.”

Kellogg and Kellogg’s Corporate Citizenship Fund (KCCF) have supported Feeding America for more than 30 years with food and financial gifts. In 2012 alone, Kellogg donated more than $30 million in product to Feeding America.
