New Protein-Enhanced Waters, Snack Bars and Meal Bars Surround Women with More Options for Helping to Manage Their Weight

BATTLE CREEK, Mich., November 16, 2006 — Millions of women have been there. With best intentions for healthy eating top of mind, they start out the week with high hopes for meeting their weight-management goals. But by Tuesday at 3 p.m., tummies are grumbling, and many can be found in the same place — in front of the comforting hum of a vending machine in search of a quick "fix" they'll later regret. Hunger often trumps women's otherwise steadfast dedication to making nutritious eating choices. And this seemingly endless struggle is very real, as research reveals that weight-conscious women's eating habits can swing drastically from good to bad across the day and throughout the week.

Now, there are new great-tasting options. Special K2O Protein Waters, Special K Protein Meal Bars and Special K Protein Snack Bars are available in November in Diet and Nutrition Sections of grocery and drug stores. These protein-enhanced products, including the first broadly available brand of protein water, are just one more way that Special K is surrounding women with options for managing their shapes without skimping on great taste or convenience.

"The more we can offer simplicity while taking the sacrifice out of dieting, the easier it is for women to pursue their shape-management programs," said Mark Baynes, senior vice president, marketing, Morning Foods Division, Kellogg Company. "Special K's new protein-enhanced products offer delicious, convenient and wholesome solutions to help consumers stay on track to achieve their weight goals."

Be Your Best Self
While some women can continually meet their weight goals, research reveals that most experience a seemingly endless cycle of hope and defeat across the day and week in pursuit of success.

It is common to find that dieters go through ups and downs each day while controlling their calorie intake. With hectic lives, consumers need easy, simple solutions that taste great and take the guessing out of calorie-control. This new line of products does just that.

The new products are a natural complement to Kellogg's popular Special K line, which includes cereals, bars and snack bites. Product specifics include:

• Special K2O Protein Waters deliver five grams of protein per 16-ounce bottle with 50 calories. K2O is available in three flavors: Strawberry Kiwi, Lemon Twist and Tropical Blend. A four pack of 16-ounce bottles has a suggested retail price of $5.99, or $1.49 for an individual bottle.

• Special K Protein Meal Bars come in Chocolate Peanut Butter, Double Chocolate and Strawberry. Each bar has 10 grams of protein and 190 calories and serves as a good source of 13 nutrients at 10 percent of the Daily Value or better. A box of six bars has a suggested retail price of $5.99, or $1.29 for an individual bar.

•Special K Protein Snack Bars contain 110 calories per bar, four grams of protein and provide a good source of nine vitamins at 10 percent of the Daily Value or better. They are available in Chocolate Peanut and Chocolate Delight. A box of six bars has a suggested retail price of $3.99, or $.89 for an individual bar.

"We know that people who are dieting are interested in easy ways to add protein to their diets," said Harley Pasternak, MSc, fitness-and-nutrition specialist and author of 5 Factor Fitness and the upcoming 5 Factor Diet (January 2007). "These products are great because they easily fit into busy lifestyles without sacrificing on taste or nourishment."
